On June 3, 2021, Ocean Rainforest was granted a 155ha/400acres license for seaweed cultivation for a duration of 12 years. The company now has a cultivation capacity in the Faroe Islands of more than 215ha/530 acres in total.
The new site is directly exposed to the North Atlantic Ocean swells from a southeast direction and is adjacent to an existing salmon farm. This fall Ocean Rainforest will deploy one cultivation rig with grow line capacity of 60.000 meters/200,000 feet. The new site has the capacity to carry 7 rigs, or more than 400.000m/1.5 million feet of seeded grow-line. The illustration shows a picture of the bay and a map of the area.
